Isn’t this just a lovely handbag gift bag. It is really quite easy to make and you can embellishments and add whatever patterns you like.
So, you start off with a sheet of 12″ x 12″ DSP. I have used the new Pop of Pink DSP. Isn’t it just lovely.
If your paper has a pattern direction you need to make sure as you lay it on your Simply Scored that the pattern is going from left to right, so the front of your bag will be on the right hand side of your paper. Once you have done this you can begin scoring.
Score at 1/2″, 4 1/2″, 7 1/2″ and 11 1/2″. Rotate anticlockwise and score at 3 3/4″ and 8 1/4″. Fold and burnish the four main score lines but not the half inch ones. Now cut up either side of the front and back panel. I have added a photo to help.
Turn your paper over to the right side and put adhesive on the four outer tabs, fold the tabs on the inside. This will actually make a box shape. Gently squeeze the front and back towards each other, causing the sides to ‘bow’ out. You will notice this makes the basic handbag shape. Add adhesive to the inside of the half inch tabs and fold them over to the inside. This gives a neater edge.
Using two strips of co-ordinating card stock 1″ x 11″. Add tear and tape to the top and bottom of both strips and adhere round the base of your bag. It may look neater if you start at the centre back and work your way round.
I also added a 3/4″ strip each side at the top.
The handles are two strips measuring 1/2″ x 11″. Using your bone folder gently curl the handles between your thumb and bone folder. Adhere to the front and back.
The top ‘closure’ panel measures 3″ x 5″. Adhere one edge to the back. I used a Velcro dot for the closure but you could use a magnet.
All that’s left now is your decoration and embellishments.
I used White Perfect Accents and punched some Petite Petals to embellish the bottom and handles. The Petite Petals had Basic Rhinestone Jewels in the centre
I used the flamingo out of Pop of Paradise and stamped it on Basic Black with Versamark. I then used White Embossing powder and heat embossed it. I added a pink candy dot as an eye.
The finishing touch was the Label. I used the Decorative Label Punch and punched out a Melon Mambo label. Still using the Pop of Paradise stamp I added the sentiment with Basic Black ink and a couple of White Perfect Accents.
This is such a great twist on a gift bag. Any girl, young or old, will love this. It can be filled with a small gift or some sweets and of course, you can make it in any colour or design that suits the recipient.
