Todays Tuesday Trio is a delightful little Thank you notelet, Candle Box and Bag.
As you may notice, the box is actually a tiny treat box, which come pre-cut and pre-scored. All I did was decorate it.
I simply layered DSP on the sides and top. The sizes for the layering are 1 3/4 inch squared and 1 1/2 inch squared. I put layers on all four sides and the top.
The flowers on the top were punched with the Pansy punch and Petite Petals punch. I then added a lovely In-Colour Blossom Accent in the middle. That’s it, box decorated.
You will notice that I have made a ‘stand’ for the candle to sit in. I noticed when I just put the candle in it would wobble around. The stand just gives it some stability. The candle is actually a small Yankee Candle. I love these, they are the perfect size and only £1 from Asda.
Unfortunately there are no easy numbers to work with when making this. I really do hate working with parts of an inch but there was no other way.
So, start off with a piece of DSP 2 11/16’s squared. You then need to score at 3/8’s of an inch on each side. (Score, rotate, score, rotate and so on).
At this point I found it ideal to punch the centre circle out before folding and scoring. I used 1 1/2″ punch which the candle sat comfortably in. I didn’t use any guides when punching the hole, I just gauged it by eye.
Once the centre is punched you can then fold and burnish your score lines. You now need to cut the corner tabs. I have added an image to help.
You can see that a small wedge is cut out. This gives a more professional finish. I found it easier to use a glue dot on each tab due to them being so small.
Ensure the glue dot goes on the side facing upwards then fold them under the sides, making the ‘lid’ shape. This is now finished.
The bag is made in the same way all of the bags are made. You need a piece of DSP measuring 11″ x 5″. With the 11″ across the top, score the side you want to see facing up at 3″, 5″, 8″ and 10″. Rotate 90 degrees and score at 2″. Fold and burnish your score lines.
You then need to cut your ‘base flaps’. You need to cut vertically up the 3,5 and 8 score lines to the horizontal score line. The right hand side will have one score line you haven’t cut. This is because the small square/oblong needs to be cut away, from the base to the horizontal line. I have added another image to help.
When you have got to this stage you need to run adhesive along the thin strip on the right. This is also shown in the above image. Adhere the tab to the back so you now have the shape of your bag. Making sure the ‘join’ is at the back, fold in the bottom flaps (sides then back), put adhesive on the inside of the front flap and fold in. You now have your bag.
Punch holes in the top and add ribbon or twine for the handles. I used the silver ribbon.
If desired, you can add a stamped sentiment or image to the front. I used the hugs and kisses stamp from the S-A-B Party Pants, which will soon be unavailable.
So, Candle box and bag made.
The card was very straight forward to make. I have called it a notelet as it’s actually half the size of my normal cards.
The cardstock measures 10cm x 14cm and scored at 7cm. I simply layered a matching piece of DSP on the top and added a ‘Thank you’ from Another Thank you stamp set. You could add more decoration if you wanted but I thought as the paper was quite busy it didn’t need anything else.
Due to the card being a notelet size you can either make your own envelope using the envelope board or use the Whisper White envelopes from the notelet packs.
I’m sure I have given you plenty to be getting on with now.
Don’t forget that Sale-a-Bration ends 31st March so get those items before it’s too late and don’t forget to order your snail refills, glue dots and dimensional before you run out.
